The importance of thermal insulation of windows
Good windows and doors must offer good levels of thermal insulation and the importance of these elements is really primary. The installation of poor quality windows could decisively compromise even the energy efficiency of the most modern “Smart Home”.

At a technical level, aluminum is not exactly an ideal material for making windows and doors. This metal is in fact an excellent conductor, which means that the external temperatures, whether hot or cold, are transmitted inside very easily.
Aluminum frames have been widespread for a long time because this metal is able to effectively combine strength with lightness, however the growing attention towards thermal insulation has highlighted this problem; the industry of the sector has thus tried to improve these products and the introduction of the so-called thermal break was certainly decisive.
The thermal break is basically a treatment to which the metal is subjected during the production processes, which significantly modifies the thermal insulation capacity of the frame.
Aluminum frames worked with thermal break or with equally effective technologies can be a very interesting choice as they retain the main strengths of this material, namely resistance, strength, lightness and elegance, while still guaranteeing a better profile as regards the ‘thermal insulation.
Steel (iron and carbon alloy)
Steel has a very important common point with aluminum: both metals are in fact good conductors, consequently they are certainly not synonymous with thermal insulation.
This does not mean that steel windows are not performing. These fixtures too can be processed with a thermal break, or in any case they can be made with specific methods that optimize their insulation capacity. What matters is obviously to buy quality models?
Beyond this, the most relevant technical characteristic that distinguishes steel is certainly its resistance. PVC, acronym with which polyvinyl chloride is indicated, is a material that is carving out more and more spaces in the world of window production and certainly represents an excellent choice from the point of view of thermal insulation.
This material is in fact an excellent insulator, therefore windows of this type are able to very effectively retain the internal temperatures of a building, significantly reducing energy consumption related to air conditioning.
This is not the only reason why PVC is a material widely used for the production of fixtures: it is in fact rather light, it can be worked easily and it is a rather cheap material, as far as the main critical issues are concerned, it should be noted that it is tendency to deform, which can however be effectively dealt with by carrying out certain treatments during the production phase.
Its strength level is interesting, but it is still lower than that of steel.
Even the wood is a good choice in terms of thermal insulation capacity, being of a material that effectively retains the internal temperature of a building.
It is well known that wood can have very diversified characteristics, since many types are available in nature, consequently the technical differences between wooden windows are not irrelevant, also as regards the relative thermal insulation capacity.
In almost all cases, wood is a very resistant material, and this is certainly a strong point, moreover it is always much loved for its exceptional aesthetics: the natural colors of the wood, embellished by the unmistakable grain, can enrich both the design of the internal environments than that of the external facades of buildings.
